Kittredge Konnection – October 18, 2016

8th Grade High School Day Tomorrow – Wednesday, October 19

Please remember there will be no Kittredge classes for 8th graders tomorrow. These High School Days are scheduled to help and support our 8th graders and their families while they are visiting high schools and working on their applications.

Lifetouch Retakes and Class Pictures – Thursday, October 20

Your children have all received their proofs from school pictures and their ID cards. Pictures can be ordered on line. Class pictures and individual retakes are scheduled for Thursday. Please return your original proofs if you would like your child to have a retake.

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip is this Friday, October 21

Our kindergarteners to 3rd graders will have their annual pumpkin patch trek. Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to drive and chaperone this special trip. We couldn’t enjoy the day without you. Please make sure that your drivers information has been updated in the office and don’t forget to bring a booster or car seat for your child if it is needed for the ride.

Thank You Anna, Maddie, Ethan and Caitlyne!

A huge thanks to Anna Malyala, mother of Ishwar, for being the kindergarten parent rep at our Open House last week. Thanks also to Maddie Kiss and Ethan Reader for being the 8th grade student reps and to Caitlyne Mar for coming back as a graduate. Our prospective families appreciated the insights and experiences you shared.

Halloween Costume Drive for Hamilton Family House

A message from Caroline Kreutzen, 8th grade student

As we near Halloween, please think of the many kids who can’t afford a costume and consider donating new or gently used costumes to the Hamilton Family House. Specifically they are looking for any kind of accessories and older kid costumes, however all donations are welcome. The Hamilton House’s mission is to end family homelessness and they provide services such as temporary housing and follow up. If you would like to donate, there will be a box in the main lobby of Kittredge near Trudy’s desk though October 19.

Presidio Hill School Middle School Dance – October 28

Kittredge 6th, 7th and 8th graders have been invited to a middle school dance hosted by PHS.

October 28 from 7 to 9:45 at 3839 Washington Street

Permission slips and the $10 cover charge must be returned by Wednesday, October 26.

Permission slips were distributed to students but here’s one if you need it: phs-dance-permission-slip-2016

National Geographic Bee – Sign up Underway!

The National Geographic Bee is an annual competition organized by the National Geographic Society, designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world. Each year, thousands of schools across the United States participate and compete for college scholarships and the glory of being the National Geographic Bee Champion.

We would like Kittredge to be among those schools. All 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders are eligible to compete.

Habits of Mind

October’s Habit is: Striving for Accuracy and Precision

What is Striving For Accuracy and Precision? It is the desire for craftsmanship and mastery to produce exceptional results.

How does someone achieve accuracy and precision?

Always remind yourself to: Take pride in your work; achieve the highest possible standards; and focus on accomplishing your task.

When you are finished, ask yourself: Did I follow the directions I was given? Did I do it to the best of my ability? Does my finished product meet the exemplary criteria?

What NOT to do: Turn in sloppy, incomplete, or uncorrected work; give minimal effort; or forget to look over your work for accuracy.

Now, you are ready to conquer anything by giving it your BEST shot!

Halloween at Kittredge

All students should come to school in costume on Monday, October 31. Costumes cannot include weapons or toy weapons of any kind. Masks and other accessories should be kept in a bag until the parade (weather permitting) at 2:00. Parents are invited to attend.

Trick or Treat for UNICEF

Student council is once again sponsoring this successful program. UNICEF boxes have been distributed to all students who want to participate. The campaign will end on November 3 and the boxes must be in by that morning to count toward your class total.

Volleyball Team Update

Kittredge has an amazing volleyball team this year. The students are playing hard, playing fair and having a good time. The results so far have been great… 5 wins and 0 losses. We’re always proud of our students who join teams and work to improve their skill. We look forward to seeing the team in the playoff games!

There is 1 more game next Friday, October 28. All students and parents are welcome to come to a game and cheer for the team. Support is always appreciated. Go Kittredge!

Running Gags Update

The Kittredge cross-country team is the running strong. Students practice twice a week after school except on Meet days. There are two more Meets are scheduled; one is next Monday, October 24 and the Finals on November 7. Students have been getting faster and stronger with each week. Way to go Gags!
