Kittredge Konnection – February 26, 2019

Taking Responsible Risks

“You’ll always miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” ~Wayne Gretzky

Responsible risk takers do not behave impulsively. Their risks are educated. They draw on past knowledge, are thoughtful about consequences and have a strong sense of what is appropriate. They also know that all risks are not worth taking.

When you do something for the first time it is often a little scary. It doesn’t have to be skydiving, it could be sharing a new idea with friends or trying something you always thought was too hard to do. Once you know that there will be no harm to anyone, step outside your comfort zone and give it a try!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~ Mark Twain

Music and Scripts for the Talent Show are Needed by Friday

If your child has turned in an audition form, David needs his or her final script or music by Friday. Without this information, he will not be able guarantee a spot in the show.

A Busy Week for our Students

On Monday we will have an all-school assembly to introduce our March Habit of Mind. On Tuesday, Ms. Pon-Barry’s K/1 class will go the SF Symphony for a field trip and on Friday, Ms. Baker’s 2/3 class will present their President Dioramas. Last but not least, on Friday evening our 6th, 7th and 8th graders are invited to a Middle School Dance at Presidio Hill.

Project Cicero Bay Area will be At Kittredge!

The Book Drive begins next Monday and Ends next Thursday

The Kittredge community is partnering with Project Cicero Bay Area. We are taking part in a children’s book drive designed to create and supplement classroom libraries in schools that desperately need books. Many other San Francisco schools are participating, and together, we hope to collect and distribute thousands of books to over 300 teachers, reaching 10,000 students in need this year.

Books in need are: Beginning Readers, Picture Books, Board Books, Early and Middle Grade Chapter Books, Young Adult Fiction, Graphic Novels, Classic Literature, Geography/History, Multicultural Literature, Biographies, Poetry, Plays/Drama, Up-to-date Reference. Please no Adult Books or textbooks.

Futsal Season is Starting

Futsal is a fast paced game of indoor soccer. If your child is interested and eligible to play, permission slips will be going home later this week and practices will begin next week. Go Kittredge!

Our Second Trimester Ends March 22

Please remember that all middle school parents can check on their child’s grades and assignments using their TeacherEase account. With three weeks of the grading period left, now is a great time to see what is going on!

The Kittredge School Talent Show is March 28 at 6:15

Extended Day will close at 5:00

Please mark your calendars now to make sure you and your child can attend this entertaining evening of talent. Classes are busy working on their group performances with David Silverman. We hope all students and families will attend.

Each child’s role in the class production is important so please let us know if your child will not be attending the talent show.

Staff Development Day – March 29

There will be no classes on Friday, March 29. This staff development day will give us a chance to meet, prepare and review curriculum.

A Survey Monkey questionnaire will be emailed in March. We ask each parent to respond with a “yes” or “no” whether their child will attend Extendo. Thank you in advance!

Count-Me-In Ideas for the Auction

A note from Homa Hanjani, Count Me In Coordinator

Dear Wonderful Kittredge Community,

A team is working hard to make this year’s Dinner & Auction a fun and successful event… and we need your help with Count-Me-Ins!

Count-Me-Ins are fun inclusive experiences that Kittredge families and faculty can sign up for during the silent auction.

They are easy to create. By filling out the attached form you are designing a Count-Me-In event to host and making it available for families to sign up for. Click here for ideas and information!

In past years, great items have included the following, just to name a few:

  1. Donut Hike

  2. Night of Persian Delights – Drinks, appetizer, dinner, and dessert!

  3. Pajama Jammy with Ms. Pon Barry

  4. Art Party with Katie B

Thank you for helping us make the auction a great success.
