Kittredge Konnection – September 6, 2016

Your Kittredge Konnection Will Be emailed Every Tuesday

The Kittredge Konnection is a weekly newsletter put together by the school staff to keep the Kittredge community informed. The Konnection will be posted on our website each Tuesday and you will also receive an emailed link.

Forms will be attached electronically so you can print them out and return them with your child. Don’t miss out on anything… read the Konnection each Tuesday.

SSAT Prep Course Begins Thursday

All 8th graders are encouraged to take advantage of the SSAT practice/study class that the KPA has so generously subsidized. This is an eight-week class that ends right before the November 12th SSAT test. Classes are scheduled from 3:15 to 4:15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thank you KPA!

Friday Lunches are Back!

Please return the attached form, with your payment, by Thursday if your child would like any of the Friday lunches this month. No lunches can be ordered after 2pm on the Thursday before so that we can place the lunch order. As always this lunch program helps the 7th/8th grade trip to Yosemite. Enjoy! Here’s the lunch form: September Hot Lunch

Picture Day is next Monday, September 12

Lifetouch Photography will be here next Monday to take individual school pictures. Please remember to send your child to school with a smile!

Minimum Day… Next Thursday, September 15

Next Thursday, September 15, students will be dismissed at Noon so that teachers can prepare for Back to School Night. There will be no Study Hall that day. Extended Day is available for those who have a contract and as well as for drop-ins on minimum days. We will use Survey Monkey on-line forms for dismissal information and a link will be emailed to you this week. Please respond in a timely manner.

Back to School Night, Next Thursday September 15

All parents are invited into their child’s classroom to learn about the curriculum and goals for the upcoming year. A general overview of the year as well as classroom policies and expectations will be discussed. There will be no individual conferences at this time.

The doors will open at 6:10 so that teachers can start their presentations promptly at 6:30. Please remember that parking can be difficult, so plan appropriately. Walking, biking and carpooling are recommended.

If your child is in Extended Day and you plan to attend, please consider picking your child up early.

This evening is for adults only and we will not be able to provide childcare. See you there!

Electronic Grade Books

Our teachers will continue using TeacherEase to keep track of their student’s assignments, tests and grades. This is an on-line program that is available for parents and students to use and check on their academic performance. Most of you received a “welcome” letter with log-in information already, but I am going to send out a school-wide welcome this afternoon so that everyone will have the information again. Students in middle school are encouraged to give me an email address so they can have their own log-in code.

First KPA Meeting is September 20 at 6:00

All parents are welcome to attend the Kittredge Parent Association Meeting. Meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of each month (this month is an exception). Childcare is available for Kittredge students during the meeting. New projects will be discussed.

Join Kittredge School’s, Parent Book Club

The lovely and talented Ms. Dharmer (our 7th and 8th grade English and Literature teacher) is once again offering to host a school wide parent book club. The club will meet one evening each trimester to discuss a particular selected book.

Last year Ms. Dharmer was asked to consider having parents read the same book as her middle school students were reading, and she has planned that for the first book. Please note however, that all parents with kids in all grades are encouraged to join.

The first trimester meeting date is Thursday, November 10th, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. The book is Summer and Bird, by Katherine Catmull. This is also a novel the 7th grade will be reading.

There will be reminders in the Konnection and details will be handed out in all classes at Back to School Night next week.

Feel free to contact Ms. Dharmer with any questions at

Help Kittredge Be A Good Neighbor!

Over the years, Kittredge School’s neighbors have been wonderfully supportive about having us in their midst. Every year we ask for your help to keep it this way. We ask that when you drop off and pick up your child, please do not double-park and leave your car unattended, block our neighbors’ driveways or the intersection of 25th and Lake. Thank you, Kittredge and our neighbors will both appreciate it!

After School Science Class Begins Next Week

Science with Ms. Rose

Our middle school science teacher Ms. Rose, is continuing to offer a hands-on science course to students in first through 6th grade. This popular after-school program will be held on Tuesdays for 1st to 3rd grades and on Wednesdays for 4th to 6th grades. Please return the attached registration form to enroll your child. Class begins next Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the grade.

KPA (Kittredge Parents Association) Korner

It was wonderful that so many parents were able to attend the Back-to-School Coffee. Huge thanks to Remi Hayashi for preparing scrumptious pastries for our celebration!

All parents are members of the KPA by virtue of having children attend Kittredge. There are no obligations, just great opportunities for sharing fun, building community, and supporting the amazing faculty in their work with our children. You are warmly encouraged to participate in the KPA in whatever fashion suits you and your situation. The KPA tries to offer a variety of opportunities so that everyone will find something appealing. To find out more, attend the first KPA meeting on Tuesday, September 20 from 6-7 p.m. Thereafter, meetings will be the second Tuesday of each month. We would love to have more people involved—the more the merrier! Childcare and pizza will be available for your child(ren) during KPA meetings.

KPA fun-raising events traditionally include a fall parent-teacher night out, the Holiday Happening, and the Spring Dinner and Auction. Fund-raising opportunities typically include a See’s Candy sale before the winter holidays, a Raffle, and the Spring Dinner and Auction. Our fundraising proceeds go directly to support field trips, technology acquisitions, team uniforms, and other items that benefit the students.

Please contact Debbie Veatch at or 415-752-1676 with any questions, suggestions, or ideas.
