October Habit of Mind: Striving for Accuracy

“Measure a thousand times and cut once.” ~Turkish Proverb

Our habit this month is Striving for Accuracy. Successful people who strive for accuracy take time to check their product. They desire and value craftsmanship! They take pride in their work.

Root Division Art Auction – Invite for Parents this Saturday

Update by Sarah HaBa, Kittredge Parent

I am part of the Root Division art auction. It is THE major art auction in San Francisco. This ‪Saturday, Oct. 8th from 7-10pm is the preview reception, and you can come see the art (over 150 artists) for free! The gallery is in SOMA, and it is beautiful. And the art is beautiful!! More info is at ‪rootdivision.org or at my website: ‪sarahhaba.com

** If you plan on coming to the reception and would like to see me there, come early!! I’d love to show you around, but I expect the gallery to get busier as the evening goes on. Then let’s cut out and walk down the street to Oddjob to grab a drink. We can discuss important cultural subjects, or non-important non-cultural subjects. Either way, I’d love to see you!

Halloween Costume Drive for Hamilton Family House

A message from Caroline Kreutzen, 8th grade student

As we near Halloween, please think of the many kids who can’t afford a costume and consider donating new or gently used costumes to the Hamilton Family House. Specifically they are looking for any kind of accessories and older kid costumes, however all donations are welcome. The Hamilton House’s mission is to end family homelessness and they provide services such as temporary housing and follow up. If you would like to donate, there will be a box in the main lobby of Kittredge near Trudy’s desk though October 19.

A Message to the Community from Ms. Elisabeth

It is with immense joy I announce the birth of Nora Carolyn Avnet. Nora was born the morning of April 4th — just 5 days after the Talent Show!

Having fallen deeply in love, it became clear I wanted to be a full-time parent. While it was the best choice for our family, making the decision to step away from Kittredge was not easy. Knowing that Kittredge is in such excellent hands is of great comfort. I have spent time with both Maria and David and am excited by all they have to offer.

After eleven years it is difficult to express how much the Kittredge community means to me. I have been supported by the faculty, appreciated by the parents, and inspired by the students. The relationships built feel meaningful and lasting.

Sweet Nora is quickly approaching 6 months. She is curious, even-tempered, and full of smiles.  She enjoys observing nature, bouncing to music, listening to stories, and interacting with her stuffed animal friends.  She sucks her thumb, kicks her feet, and thinks her parents are absolutely hilarious. Grandparents and relatives are over the moon.

Please know that I think of Kittredge often and wish you all the best for this new school year. I will not be a stranger!
