Welcome Back!
The 2024-2025 school year is here and we are so happy to be back! It has been such a treat to watch students yesterday and today as they catch up with friends and teachers, and meet our newest Kittredge community members. We cannot wait to see where the year takes this exceptional group of students!
Thank You to our KPA
We owe a great big thank you to KPA President Jessica May-Shah, Secretary & Communications Officer Mindee Kashiwagi, and Treasurer Lisa Wong for an amazing KPA-Parent Coffee yesterday! Nothing says "the kids are back in school" quite like a donut and a big cup of coffee!
We had a wonderful time seeing old friends and getting to know new ones! We hope you did too. And if you missed the coffee hour, fear not! You can see our whole community next Saturday, September 7, at our annual fall picnic.
School Calendar
This year is sure to get busy, and FAST - that's why we highly recommend syncing your Google calendar with the Kittredge School Calendar, so that you can always be up-to-date on school events.
Help Kittredge Be A Good Neighbor - Drop-off and Pickup
Over the years, Kittredge School’s neighbors have been wonderfully supportive about having us in their midst. Every year we ask for your help to keep it this way. When you drop off and pick up your child, please do not double-park, leave your car unattended, block our neighbors’ driveways or the intersection of 25th and Lake.
As any of our students will tell you, Kittredge is a safe place. Our greatest concern is for the safety of our students and our community. With this in mind, it is always preferable that parents find a legal parking spot to drop off or pick up their children. We also know it is not always possible for parents to park and meet, so to this end, we have pick up and drop off policies for our loading zone. Please read them and follow them entirely.
The first rule is for all parents to drive safely. It is important that we observe all traffic laws (do not speed, make illegal U-turns, double park or park on any corner) and always be on the look-out for children.
It is important that cars do not stay in our loading zone for any time more than is necessary. Students must get in and out of cars quickly and safely and exit directly to the sidewalk when dropped off and enter from the sidewalk when picked up. Backpacks, jackets and lunches should be ready and close by so that students can enter/exit quickly (not in the trunk) and organization of materials should be taken care of before pulling in. Car and booster seats must be properly installed before entering the loading zone. If a parent needs to leave the driver seat for any reason, the loading zone should not be used and the parent should find and use a legal parking spot.Â
At pickup, if the child is not at the loading zone, the parent must carefully drive around the block until their child arrives or, even better, find a legal parking spot to come meet their child on foot. Parents should not park and wait for the arrival of their child, for this will block the pick up area for others and create a possible hazard.
Please follow these rules and remember to be patient and careful. We are all counting on everybody working together for the safety of our children and the good of the neighborhood.
If you have any questions about these procedures, please feel free to call the school or catch Ms. Pon-Barry on the corner during drop off. (But remember to park legally before you do!)
Attendance
Wait, what time does school start again??!!
The beginning of the new year is always a bit of a dance, and part of that dance is trying to remember where to be and at what time!
As a reminder, students in Extended Day may join us in the morning as early as 7:45am. Students not in Extended Day may join their classroom teacher as early as 8:20am.
Middle school classes begin at 8:30am, and elementary school classes begin at 8:40am.
If you are running late or your child will be absent, please give the office a call so that we can notify your child's teacher.
If your child is sick, please notify the school. If your child is presenting Covid symptoms, please test and send the results jamieatkittredge@gmail.com.
Extended Day and Study Hall
It's not too late to sign up for Extended Day or Study Hall!
Extended Day is a daily program that offers the most before and after school care. It runs before school beginning at 7:45am and after school until 6pm, and starts on the first day of school. Extended Day includes Study Hall and offers additional games, crafts, legos, outdoor play time, as well as walking field trips on minimum days and some holidays (with a minimum of five students).
Study Hall is our after school program that helps students complete their homework in a supervised setting. It runs from 3pm-4:30pm and begins the second week of school, ending in May.Â
If you would like to register your child for Study Hall, or Extended Day, please complete the After School Form attached to your Konnection email and return it to the office.
Teacherease
Teacherease is an online platform that we use here at Kittredge to communicate grades, attendance, and more with parents.
By now the parents of all students, both returning and incoming, have been granted access to Teacherease. If you did not receive an invitation email from Teacherease, please reach out to jamieatkittredge@gmail.com and we will make sure you get set up!
Minimum Day Friday
This Friday is a minimum day with a 12pm dismissal. Extended Day will be available from 12pm-6pm.
Students who are not enrolled in Extended Day are welcome to drop-in for the afternoon. The drop-in fee is $45.
