Applying for the 2021-2022 School Year

The information that appears below has been modified to account for the present shelter-in-place restrictions in San Francisco. Kittredge School will resume live school tours when it is safe to do so. As the year goes on we will update this page to reflect any changes that have occurred.

Visiting Kittredge School

Presently we cannot allow families to tour the school in person. We encourage families to attend one of our virtual open houses, and/or set up a private meeting with the Principal to learn about the school. We offer virtual open houses and meetings for all grade levels. Applications are completed on-line and you can click here if you’d like to begin your application now. If you’d like to set up a private meeting  please click this link to get to a sign-up page. To register for an open house please see the next paragraph. The school office telephone number is 415-750-8390. While we will not be in the building on any regular basis, we will check the phone for messages periodically.

Open Houses
Two virtual open houses are offered from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on two weekday evenings, and one is offered on a Saturday morning, from 10:00 to 11:00. These provide an excellent opportunity to meet and talk with  teachers and hear from the Principal, current parents, and current and former students, and have a chance to ask questions about the school and the admissions process. Evening Open Houses are scheduled for Thursday, October 8 and Wednesday, November 4, 2020. Our Saturday morning Open House will be held on October 24. A reservation is needed for all dates, as space is limited. To make a reservation, please email Principal Pete Lavaroni, at

By the way, if it is deemed safe to offer live open houses instead of virtual ones, we will try to do exactly that. We will inform you of any changes in format as soon as they are known.

We are not permitted to schedule live tours at this time. You may sign up for a private meeting with the principal during which a virtual tour may be offered. We do hope to be able to schedule live tours at some point and will update this page as conditions change.

Student Play Dates and Visits
At present we are unable to schedule play dates and visits. We will keep families updated regarding any changes that amy occur

Application Checklist
• Schedule a tour or an open house. You receive an application during your tour or open house.
• Complete the on-line application.
• Give the confidential Student Evaluation Form to your child’s current teacher so that the teacher can complete and return the form to the Kittredge admissions office.
• Give the Record Release Form (applicants to grades 1–8) to your child’s current school.

Admissions Decisions
An admissions committee, consisting of teachers and administrators, makes admission decisions. The admissions committee’s job is to admit students for whom Kittredge School is a good fit. We look for families who understand and support our school mission and core values, and for students who will thrive in our small, nurturing environment and will benefit from our structured curriculum. Children who succeed at Kittredge tend to have a natural desire to learn and want to take an active role in their learning. Admission decisions will be mailed on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, and emailed the following day at noon. Kittredge School is a member of the Independent Schools of the San Francisco Bay Area (ISSFBA) and abides by all of its rules and procedures.
